New York: Stop Snoring With The Pillar® Procedure

POSTED ON THURSDAY, JULY 14, 2011 AT 4:44 PM by Dr. Mark Stein

Snoring and Sleep Apnea can cause harm to more than just your relationship. Don’t let your condition go untreated!

The most recent studies show that approximately 30 percent of adults over the age of 30 suffer from chronic snoring. As much as 40 percent of middle aged adults (age 40 and over) snore. Twenty to 40 percent of the adult population that snores also suffers from sleep apnea.

According to New York Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Stein, there’s a new, simple, and remarkably effective way to treat snoring and mild sleep apnea. It’s called the Pillar® Procedure, and it’s now offered New York Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Implant Center

The Pillar® Procedure is an innovative, minimally invasive option for treating the soft palate issues that cause snoring and sleep apnea. For people that snore, the soft palate tissue in the back of the throat relaxes too much during sleep, causing the airway to be restricted.  When air is drawn in over the soft palate during the breathing process, it causes vibrations of the soft palate, leading to a snoring sound.  For some people, the soft palate collapses completely into the throat, partially or totally blocking the person’s airway. This causes sleep apnea. When this blockage occurs, the sleeper will stop breathing and be jolted awake to resume breathing, sometimes as many as hundreds of times per night.

During the Pillar® Procedure, Dr. Stein will insert tiny metal implants into the soft palate. These implants stiffen the soft palate, reducing the vibrations that are responsible for the snoring sound and obstructive sleep apnea. The procedure, which requires local anesthesia and optional IV sedation, can be performed in as little as 20 minutes right in our New York office.

So why treat your snoring and sleep apnea? Chronic snoring and sleep apnea negatively affect your sleeping patterns and cause daytime exhaustion, but they can also lead to other serious health problems. Recent studies reveal that the risk of stroke and heart disease is significantly higher for people afflicted by sleep apnea than for people who are not.  Approximately one half of all people who have sleep apnea also suffer from essential hypertension.

If you’re one of the millions of people who suffer from chronic snoring and sleep apnea, getting a good night’s sleep is easier and cheaper than ever before. Now through August 31, 2011, take $150 off the total price of the revolutionary, minimally invasive Pillar® Procedure. This offer is for non-insurance participating patients only and the entire procedure must be completed in our office. For more information about Dr. Stein and to find out if the Pillar® Procedure can help you stop snoring, schedule a consultation in our New York Office by calling 212.888.4760.
