Introducing nSequence® Software for Dental Implants & More!

POSTED ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2015 AT 11:05 AM by Dr. Mark Stein

Oral surgery truly has come a long way. Specialized imaging software has allowed for precise dental mapping, while advanced technology can create customized dental implants to fit in with your individual set of teeth. Advancements such as these have made procedures safer and have produced better results, thanks to careful planning and execution. Creating a concise strategy before dental implant placement is crucial, as effective planning can result in less unforeseen circumstances during the procedure and less overall risk. nSequence® is the newest way to plan ahead for your oral procedure!

This innovative dental software and restoration planning acts as a guide when performing the placement of dental implants. Once the implants are placed, a temporary restoration of the final teeth can be placed the same day by the restorative dentists because all the planning has been done beforehand. This makes the “Teeth in a Day” procedure much more predictable and streamlined. Check out some of the benefits of nSequence® below. Dr. Stein is the only Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon in NYC that is currently able to use this technology.

Detailed CT-Scans

nSequence® software uses the CT scan taken in Dr. Stein’s office in combination with a restorative plan made together between Dr. Stein and your restorative dentist to formulate a surgical guide that will be used during the implant placement procedure. nSequence® scanning technology can produce a virtual wax-up (a virtual image or impression of your teeth) that can then be modified according to the desired treatment.

Planning Oral Surgery With Precision

nSequence® allows for precise planning in preparation for a variety of procedures. This software acts as a guide—allowing for accurate, realistic results with every change made on screen. Every surgical option can be displayed and surgeons can place implants at the desired depth, angles, and trajectory. Oral surgeons can even display multiple treatment options in order to determine the best course of action that coincides with the patients goals and desires.

Multiple Types Of Surgical And Restorative Procedures

nSequence® can safely and efficiently plan a host of oral procedures, including:

Place Multiple Dental Implants with the All-On-4 (or More) Method!

POSTED ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 02, 2015 AT 11:27 AM by Dr. Mark Stein

Looking to ditch your dentures? The “All-On-4” (or More) method is designed for patients who are looking to replace their dentures or who may need dentures later on. Unlike traditional dental implants that use a screw to anchor each individual tooth, the All-On-4 (or More) dental implant system uses just 4 (or more) implants to anchor an entire set of teeth! At New York Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, we are proud to offer this innovative method of dental implant surgery!

Benefits of Placing Multiple Dental Implants

All-On-4 (or More) dental implants are permanent and can improve your smile for a lifetime! These implants help prevent bone deterioration and help maintain a healthy, full-appearing smile and facial structures. Additionally, many patients report an increased ability to chew food. Unlike dentures, there is no need for removal, as the All-On-4 (or More) method produces a fixed set of teeth. Your implants act similar to natural teeth, allowing you to brush and floss and eat virtually any type of food.

Unlike traditional dental implants, patients do not require bone grafting before undergoing All-On-4 (or More) treatment. Your All-On-4 (or More) procedure can be completed in one session and requires little downtime. Many patients resume daily activities the following day! Dr. Stein will schedule a follow-up appointment with you to finalize your All-On-4 (or More) procedure and evaluate your results.

Dr. Stein is dedicated to the long-term health of his patients and is always looking ahead to assure the most efficient care possible. If you currently have dentures, or may require dentures later on, consider the All-On-4 (or More) method for a natural-looking set of teeth.

Mark Stein, D.D.S., M.D. and his staff encourage patients to express any questions or concerns you may have about the All-On-4 (or More) method, dental implants, or any of our other procedures! You can contact us at our New York office at 212.888.4760, or you may make an appointment online for a personal consultation with Dr. Stein.

Bone Grafting Options for Areas of Missing Teeth!

POSTED ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 04, 2015 AT 1:56 PM by Dr. Mark Stein

Getting a tooth removed can be a concerning thought for many. When preparing for a tooth extraction, you may not be focused on anything but the procedure itself; this is certainly an understandable feeling. However, it is beneficial to also think about the future when removing a tooth.

After undergoing a tooth extraction, it is imperative that you fill the area of the missing tooth with a dental implant. If not, surrounding teeth may collapse inward—affecting tooth function and possibly altering your facial profile. Many patients, though, do not undergo a bone graft or bone maintenance after tooth extractions. As a result, bone loss begins to occur in the area where your tooth used to be. At New York Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Stein offers a breakthrough bone grafting method to encourage bone growth and formation in areas that are missing teeth in preparation for dental implants.

INFUSE® Bone Graft is the newest way to stimulate bone regeneration! INFUSE® is made from a special bone morphogenic protein that is found naturally in the body and promotes bone growth. Additionally, the type of bone being created as a result of INFUSE® BMP is natural bone—the same that is found throughout the body.

INFUSE® is different from other bone grafting methods in that it uses neither cadaver bone nor bone from other parts of your body—two techniques that may result in several bone grafting attempts to achieve the desired outcome. INFUSE® BMP can deliver precise and natural results, so you can grow a strong foundation for the future placement of dental implants.

Mark Stein, D.D.S., M.D. and his staff encourage patients to express any questions or concerns you may have about INFUSE® BMP, bone graftingdental implants, or any of our other procedures! You can contact us at our New York office at 212.888.4760, or you may make an appointment online for a personal consultation with Dr. Stein.

Sinus Grafting for Dental Implants!

POSTED ON THURSDAY, JULY 16, 2015 AT 6:53 PM by Dr. Mark Stein

Considering dental implants to replace missing teeth? While many patients have ample bone and space to undergo their dental implant procedure smoothly, some may require additional procedures in order to ensure proper placement. When there isn’t enough bone height in the upper jaw or if the sinuses are too close, a dental implant will require a sinus lift to ensure adequate bone for placement of the implant. For those who have enlarged sinuses or less jawbone density, Dr. Stein offers sinus grafting to lift the sinuses and add a bone graft—allowing for dental implants to be properly inserted.

Your Sinus Graft Procedure

Dr. Stein uses the latest dental technology to lift the sinus membrane away from the jawbone. By doing so, ample space is created above the jaw for bone grafting to support your dental implant. The materials for your bone graft can come from a variety of sources. Dr. Stein has developed a very successful bone graft combination in his many years of practice.  In some cases, synthetic materials, such as xenograft and/or INFUSE® bone grafting material, can be used to encourage bone growth. Once your graft is placed, the bone requires a period of about 4-6 months to heal and integrate with the jaw. Dr. Stein has developed a minimally invasive technique to add bone around the sinus area, often avoiding the need for “conventional“ sinus elevation procedures.

After your healing period ends, Dr. Stein is ready to place your dental implants. Implants are inserted into the jawbone and bond over time. These implants look and feel like your natural teeth—allowing you to eat virtually any food!

Sinus grafting can help those with enlarged sinuses or low jawbone density. Patients who have lost bone due to factors like gum disease and tooth loss can lift the sinus to create additional room.

Planning Ahead for Future Dental Implants, with Dr. Stein!

POSTED ON THURSDAY, JUNE 11, 2015 AT 4:26 PM by Dr. Mark Stein

When it comes to your health, planning ahead is always a positive. Other dentists may perform routine procedures, such as tooth extractions, without considering the future effects that such a procedure can cause. Here at New York Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Stein’s top priority is your well-being—both now and in the future.

When the time comes to extract a tooth, Dr. Stein advises to undergo a bone graft after the extraction. Placing a bone graft after removing a tooth builds a stronger foundation for possible procedures down the road, such as inserting a dental implant.

Bone grafts can take up to 4-6 months to fully heal, so choosing to undergo a graft immediately after removing a tooth will prepare your jaw bone for dental implants, expiditing future dental procedures. Choosing to undergo a bone graft immediately after your tooth extraction also promotes healing and future bone growth in your jaw—creating a stronger and healthier overall bone structure.

During the procedure, Dr. Stein will carefully extract your damaged or impacted tooth. Some examples of a donor location include the patient’s own bone, as well as synthetic material, as is the case with INFUSE®, an innovative bone grafting technique using a special protein to encourage bone growth. In some cases, Dr. Stein will insert a special membrane around the bone graft for protection during healing.

After a period of 4-6 months, your dental implant is placed. Dental implants allow you to smile with confidence! These implants are surgically placed in the jawbone and bond to your bone, creating a strong foundation. Dental implants provide numerous benefits, including:

  • Look like natural teeth
  • Can eat virtually any food
  • Preserve your facial structure
  • Feel like real teeth

Mark Stein, D.D.S., M.D. and his staff encourage patients to express any questions or concerns you may have about bone grafting, dental implants, or any of our other procedures! You can contact us at our New York office at 212.888.4760, or you may make an appointment online for a personal consultation with Dr. Stein.
